Annually in October
From its start in 1988, the Yukon International Storytelling Festival has always been a global event. Performers travel from countries across the circumpolar world and beyond to participate in storytelling, drumming and dancing festivities on the banks of the Yukon River in downtown Whitehorse.
Storytellers are encouraged to tell in their first language, with a summary or full translation also provided in English. With performers from Australia to Zimbabwe, the variety and depth of languages is outstanding. Coupled with traditional costumes, dance, theatre, drums, mime and music, the Yukon International Storytelling Festival is a dynamic cultural experience not to be missed.
